This page provides information for speakers, including abstract content, presentation content, and reimbursement for travel expenses.

As a speaker, you are eligible for:

  • Complimentary attendance on the day that you are speaking at the conference
  • Travel expenses up to £100.00

We ask that you send a presentation synopsis, a photograph and a brief biography (not cv), by email to araconference@millsmediagroup.com for inclusion on the conference website, as soon as possible and no later than Friday 27 April 2018.

Your presentation synopsis should consist of no more than 400 words. If we receive your synopsis with a greater number of words, we may be forced to edit the text without prior notice, so we would appreciate your co-operation on this matter. Once the presentation abstracts are on the website we will let you know so that you can view your abstract and those of other speakers at the conference. For presentations that include multiple speakers, a joint synopsis would be great.

Your biography should be written in the first person and include an outline of your profession along with details of any relevant organisations that you have membership with and/or any public articles or publications that you have had published. If you have a role on the ARA then please mention this. The biography should consist of no more than 150 words. Again, if we receive your biography with more words, we may be forced to edit the text without prior notice.

We will also require a recent portrait photograph to accompany your biography. Ideally, this should be sent by email - araconference@millsmediagroup.com - in JPEG format with a minimum of 400dpi.

Please help us to adhere to our deadlines by returning your presentation synopsis, biography and photograph within the agreed time. The deadline for this is Friday 27 April 2018.

Your conference requirements, including attendance, meals and accommodation, should be indicated on your booking form sent to you. A speaker expenses form will be emailed to you nearer to the conference, to enable you to claim for travel expenses up to the value of £100.00. Joining instructions will also be issued to you prior to the event in August. If you have any questions in the meantime then please contact Kim Platt at araconference@millsmediagroup.com. If you feel that you should be entitled to accommodation either on the night before or after your presentation, due to the programme schedule and/or the distance you will need to travel then please submit your request and we will seek authorisation on your behalf.

We will be sharing proceedings with the online community throughout the three days of the conference. This may include the publication of 'live' online commentaries on papers, through twitter feeds and the conference blog. If you have any objections or concerns, please raise these with us in advance.  

Following the conference, the Archives and Records Association UK & Ireland reserve the right to publish a synopsis of your paper, together with any visual slides or supporting papers on its website, or to publish a summary in the magazine ARC. Speakers may also be asked by the editors of Archives and Records to submit a version of their paper for publication in the journal.
